This is my second read of this little book. It seems I read it in 2007. (See Bookcrossing.com BCID 701-5283303) But since it was sitting here where I am house sitting, I thought I'd read it again.I have to admit to relating to this book more now than I did back then. With my life about to change like Sarah's, moving to a new area, um, that is feeling the results of this draught. But the sky is the main calling as it was for Sarah and her family.It's a quiet, sweet, poetic book that might make a good read at bedtime for adults and children to share.

The 'Sarah Plain and Tall' series is among our family favorites. Skylark just gets a 4 out of 5 because while we'd like to give it a 4.5, that isn't permitted. The tender tale of Sarah, Jacob, Anna and Caleb continues. You can feel the arid conditions of the Kansas drought, the fear that grips the community as wells go dry, the loneliness and fear of families being separated so that at least some of them can travel to where water is not a constant need. A book that gives a picture to youngsters of Dust Bowl conditions; it will keep the attention of older readers as well. A happy ending completes part 2 of the Sarah stories (as we call them). [Our lack of a '5' star rating was largely because of a brief, unnecessary encounter with a skinny dipping old maiden aunt.]

Great series. I'm reading it as adult along with one of my children and it has been a very enjoyable experience.

Patricia MacLachlan is an incredibly gifted author. Her books will enchant young and old.

I bought it for a struggling reader in 5th grade and the student really enjoyed it. It gave her a lot of motivation to read.

Skylark is an excellent follow up to Sarah, Plain & Tall. My students were hooked from the first chapter. They loved it as a read aloud, & ended up requesting to read the entire series aloud throughout the year. Excellent purchase!

Excellent book. I ordered this for my classroom. We had just finished Sarah, Plain and Tall and several students wanted to read this. We had all the other books about Sarah's family but not this one.

saw this when came on tv years ago. very good movies. Glenn Close is wonderful
