Charlie Dawes (DMin, George Fox Evangelical Seminary) is associate vice president for student development at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. He is also an assistant professor in practical ministries in the college of Christian ministries and religion. Charlie has served the local church for over seventeen years as a student and young adult pastor and worship leader. He is a part of Slingshot Group, a coaching and consulting non-profit that is dedicated to helping people and churches reach their God-given design and maximize their effectiveness. He is married to Nicole and they have three children.

Simple Prayer is a blanched and, as the title suggests, simple invitation into a life of prayer. It is not long-winded nor is it heady. It is an honest and smart approach to a practical prayer experience. The author does not bog us down with step by step processes for how to pray, but rather invites us to take what he has connected to and implement it our own prayer life. He's not worried about the reader doing things his way, he's merely attempting to help them create space in their lives for silence and presence.It's a breath of fresh air, to the point, yet also full of personal anecdotes that serve the purpose and claims of the book. Simple Prayer's simplicity makes it impossible to rush through its pages. It balances the personal and universal well and I look forward to more work from Mr. Dawes down the road. It's a wonderful addition to my collection and I would greatly consider adding it to yours.

The book reads easily - I read it through in two days in my spare time. Very inspiring - it is already making a difference in my life. I have read many books over the years about prayer - this is one of the best. Highly recommended.

Great book! enhances understanding and perspective

Beautiful perspective on prayer. When life is pressing down and you can’t even put words together to form a sentence, you can use these simple prayers provided by Dawes to reconnect to the God who sees you and is fighting for you.

Excellent read. Sometimes prayer can seem so daunting that it gets pushed aside and the result is our relationship with God is pushed aside. Simple prayer removes the fear and gives great insight into having simple conversation and thought with God. I recommend this for anyone no matter the length or depth of relationship they've had with God.

I just finished this book over the weekend and it is AMAZING! It's short and sweet, but extremely impactful. A must have to any reader's collection!

We hear it all the time- “Just talk to God. God is always listening.” There is something cognitive and something in the heart about statements such as these. Cognitively, we know that God is always listening because God is God. It is easy to say this; even to listen. What is not easy is practicing prayer as if we are talking directly to God.Charlie Dawes’s Simple Prayer guides the reader in talking openly with God. We are to pray prayers of restoration, forgiveness, trust, unity, and faith, and all prayers come from within the heart. It seems we try to ensure our prayers are long enough or sound genuine, that we forget who we are talking to. Prayer, in a sense, has become a performance. We are more focused on sophistication rather than simplicity.I have never experienced a bad time to pray. As I said, God is always listening. Yet, we seem to only talk to God when we need something; rarely when we are thankful. Sometimes we may talk to God when we are wounded. Dawes on being wounded says, “The beauty of Jesus is that he can make things whole even with our wounded faith…This simple prayer (above) picks us up when we are weak and unsure…and brings us to a place where we can depend on the words of Jesus” (53). This is the prayer we need. Prayer of trust in God that God always listens. We may not like the answer, but our desired outcome should not be the objective of our prayer; God’s will should be our objective.My prayer life is not what it should be. Most people’s prayer lives are not what they should be. Even if we have wonderful times of prayer, there is always room for more.
