I ordered this book after looking at reviews for several books about how to set up blogs. I am a retired public school administrator with 33 years of experience in public education (20 of those years in public school administration).The Intro for the book defined what I'm trying to do.....stay in touch with my profession and share my professional views from my own experiences. I always am willing to learn but I can share more freely now without the day to day chores. The areas of this book outline how to set up your blog, find your voice, build your community of followers, etc. Many good ideas. A Blog is well defined and the book is filled with anecdotes to maintain your interest. We will all choose our own paths and message(s) but this book offers a good framework of what you are trying to do and how to get started as well as how to maintain and build. Many examples are provided and examples from top Bloggers with The Huffington Post online. Good Bloggers are known for being fact and reality checkers. Remember that this is a publication. Accountability is expected. I would also recommend that you read "Google Bomb" with this book. It's another book that emphasizes internet accountability and liability. These two books are my primary tools for commencing a Blog within the next 6-8 months. You also have to ask yourself if you want to affiliate and submit to others online or if you want to go your own route; in which case advertising also becomes an issue. It's all quite fascinating and I am enjoying it.
This blogging guide is better than most, and I recommend it for people like myself, who have a little experience with blogs but wish to improve.First the information is useful. The section on "getting noticed" is very valuable to me as it mentions some hints that simply were not in the other books that I read. The "community building" section seems nice also, but I have yet to try many of the suggestions.The chapter "finding your voice" is not helpful to me as I learned most of the lessons by making mistakes over the past few years. However, I believe that people who are new to writing blogs may find this chapter very helpful. Most of the lessons I have learned are covered clearly and concisely.The Huffington Post guide lacks a comprehensive index but I found other features that almost make up for that omission. Part three, the resource section, contains a wealth of information. The glossary of terms and the website resource list are excellent.Finally, the chapters employ publishing tricks to highlight information, increase readability, and ease the task for those searching for specific assistance. For example, the editors make frequent use of larger fonts, boldface, white space, and clearly enumerated lists that are useful when browsing to find specific ideas. To increase clarity of concepts, the authors list subpoints into highlighted separate sub-paragraphs.I am happy with this purchase and recommend it for others who are not yet experienced at the blogging game.
This book takes you through every facet of blogging from the beginning to the end, and actually makes you realize anyone can do it. The best part is it is all free, unless you choose to spend money on templates or other options, any one person can blog and be heard, this is what I consider true fredom of press, the way it should be. Not just because it's free of any cost, because it is unedited by anyone. The only thing is there is no racial hatred or adult content allowed, this is checked and removed. But for all intent and purposes, who wants to read that type of trash anyway? Not a normal person, that's all! The rest of us can voice our opinions, teach, connect and whatever and do it in this special way. Many people can't speak in a crowd, well now even you can be heard and your opinion is as importatnt as anyone else's. Get this book, it really is a pleasure to read and to understand what this great worldwide web can do for all of us!

There's a lot of good information and a few inspiring stories but this is mostly a book about The Huffington Post. What the book lacks in information it more than makes up for in inspiration; if it doesn't get you to at least set up an blog account somewhere than nothing will.Not a lot here you can't find for free online but it's all in one place. It anylizes different blog hosting sites, gives tips on how you can potentially make money from your blog but never breaks down the business model for blogging. Felt like someone was giving me their grandmother's chocolate cake recipe but left out the secret ingredient.My biggest complaint is purely personal. I don't like biased media whether its Liberal or Conservative. I realize the need for an antidote to Fox News but it doesn't matter what side of the fence you sit on, the more you shove your message down my throat the more it sounds like righteousness.Some great examples of blog posts, although they are disproportionately Ariana's. And though there are many "best case scenarios" of blogging, most are about established journalists and celebrites who come to the table with a reputation.Would love to see a book that teaches about blogging for the average Joe that doesn't feed media conglomerates free content.
