Greg Gutfeld, despite his snarky sound bites and cynicism seems to me to be the only sane voice in a swirling hell of political and social pundits. The Joy of Hate, Gutfeld brilliantly and very simply shows how our country has fallen on a downhill slide thanks to the intolerance of tolerance courtesy of our now thoroughly crippled nation thanks to political correctness.Gutfeld has a very admirable way of thinking on his feet when delivering his commentary and may even appear to not be serious. No he is deadly serious. He accurately calls us a nation of outraged reactionaries who demean good values and decency in favor of glamorizing and defending criminals, freaks and any amoral trend that lays claim to the excuse of individual freedom. Reading Gutfeld is invigorating and even heartening as I feel I have finally found a Pundit who speaks for me (having been 30 years since I fell hard for P.J. O'Rourke the island does not seem so lonely.) yet ultimately there is a depression as well, despite the problems being so clearly outlined out current social scope puts us a long way from solutions or even sanity.

Who knew social commentary could be so much fun!? The book is about many ideas and political topics that cause outrage in our society and times. Gutfeld calls it 'phony outrage" in this age of tolerance which is really intolerance below the surface. The tolerant and intolerant do seem to become confused and Gutfeld makes it simple and calls for tolerating what used to be called common sense. There does not seem to be a lot of that around these days. I read this book and had a great time with it...easy flow with the writing style. I laughed out loud or giggled quietly through a lot of the book. I totally enjoyed his "common sense." He emphasized that it is not necessary to tolerate the intolerant--what a refreshing concept. When I finished this book, I realized it was written 6 years ago! Prophetic! He wrote a tribute chapter to Andrew Breitbart which I loved. Breitbart was and remains a hero to me.I recommend this book to anyone who is not afraid to laugh at themselves and ...dare I say it?...Others!

I've read "Not Cool" and the Bible of Unspeakable Truths so I was ready for The Joy Of Hate. I really enjoy Greg's style of writing, it's great to read along as he "rants" his way through so many different topics. I love the word "tolerati" ..... it seems to be the theme of so many chapters. My favorite chapter if I had to pick one is Fat Kids Are The Biggest Targets, I don't think I got through a single paragraph without laughing. Hopefully Greg will come out with another book soon, I'd certainly buy it. He is very entertaining as both a TV personality and a writer. I especially love when he goes off on the Hollywood elitists, it seems all of his books have at least one chapter devoted to them. That alone makes his books enjoyable in my opinion !!

Conservatives will be full of JOY and LOVE this book, while liberals will HATE it, in my opinion. Mr. Gutfeld is one of the boldest writers I have read and delivers his opinions with clever self deprecating humor inserted at just the right time after making his point. He steps on more toes (Left & Right) than is found at a World Series playoff game, while maintaining his Libertarian principles. Don't stop with this book - read all them he's written.I have. I am currently reading the latest one "HOW TO BE RIGHT".

I will have to say, I'm not really a big fan of Fox News and definitely don't consider myself conservative, but the title of this book was very intriguing. Gutfeld had me practically rolling on the floor from start to finish. I didn't always agree with some of his points, but he still presented them in a way I am more comfortable with. As a very sarcastic person, his writing conveys much of the same; for example, when writing a serious sentence and then insert a little quip at the end (whether it re-enforced his point never really seemed to matter). I actually may have to start watching his show after this. The best line of the book (and he agrees) is the line about bad gnus! It's just refreshing to see a conservative elaborate on points with humor. I'd recommend to any of my liberal friends, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be my friends any longer....sorry to say it, but if you're not thick-skinned, you will not like this book. Some other reviewers have said they don't understand why his method of writing is one to be condoned, what happened to civility. I'm sorry, but if you are offended by his points, then maybe you shouldn't have read the book in the first place. I thought he did job of articulating his point of how absurd some people are with their "outrage."

Each chapter of the book presents one of the many phony, overplayed outrages we hear everyday and considers them with sanity. One of my favorites is a Dallas Commissioner, who is white, complained that so much traffic ticket paper work had been lost that Central Collections had become a black hole. Another Commissioner, black, took umbrage at this racist remark and said the office had become a white hole. Proof, according to the author, that astrophysics is to blame for racial troubles and that the whole universe is racist.The book isn't always hilariously jaw dropping, nor is it just laughing at a moron after moron like the one above. The subjects are real world junk outrages we hear on the toob, presented in a light hearted manner, with doses of goofiness. I dislike goofy, but it wasn't seriously offputting. There are a couple of really good belly laughs, but this is actually a serious look at manufactured outrages.I always count a book good if I finish it. I finished this.
