Frank Leigh has assembled 75 success secrets in his book Do the Right Thing, Do It All the Time. Do not let the title mislead you; this book is not a treatise on treating other people right. It is all about success strategies and positive thinking on how to make your life better each day. The success secrets Frank has gathered are all given in a very concise format which makes it an easy read reference book. The best use for this type of book is to read one of the success secrets each day and then try to see how that principle applies to you and your own life. That is also the approach the author states he feels would be best utilized in his introduction. I would not recommend reading the entire book in a day or two as you will get overwhelmed.I think that sometimes he makes the success secret explanations too concise. Leigh uses a common sense approach in his writing which makes the explanations of the success secrets so the average person can understand them. For example on “work,†Leigh states “The secret is; it takes hard work to succeed. Being lazy is for losers. The more work you do, the more success you will have.†You can’t get much simpler than that! If you have been interested in success principles then you may find this a good resource and with the concise explanations, you can spend more time applying the principle in your own life than trying to read a bunch of fluff. There’s no fluff here, just a plain and simple read through 75 success ideas for you to ponder on in your daily life.
To start with, I love this book! I give it five out of five stars. This book covers seventy-five different topics that touches all our lives at some point. The book is concise, one chapter per topic, and about only a page or two for each chapter, which makes it easy to ponder and reflect upon. It’s almost a devotional book for success.Honestly, this is a book that could be read straight through, or little by little each day. Also, it can be revisited later on. A lot of this is common sense, but sometimes we all need a reminder. My favorite quote is from the chapter on decisions. “The secret is; when you decide, you force life in the direction of your choices.†Such a little sentence but one that holds enormous impact.I recommend this book for anyone, of any age group. I have not heard of Frank Leigh before, but I will definitely be adding him to my favorite authors list.
DO THE RIGHT THING, DO IT ALL THE TIME - BY FRANK LEIGHWhile the author has some useful and timeless advice, much of the information is what most children glean from their parents and other adults such as the relatives, teachers, coaches and religious figures in their lives. To get across his points, he uses a list of what he calls “Secrets†but most seem like simple rational advice that will help “get you ahead. He strongly emphasizes that your actions and attitude are primarily what people see and use to judge you. One simple notion he promotes is the importance of surrounding yourself with positive, happy people and this, in time, will make you a better, happier more fulfilled person. His suggestions are interesting but somewhat facile. (One example: “Get a full-time job: This is the most common way to make moneyâ€).In my opinion, Mr. Leigh has cleverly divided his advice into three main categories: Achieving Wealth, Finding and Accepting Faith and, Common Sense.Strangely, even before Secret No. 6 is revealed, he targets owning your own business as the key to wealth as if this is a primary objective to a happy life. Most people do not actively seek wealth, rather they operate in a manner that may or may not provide them with it. In later “Secrets†he promotes investing in rental properties, mutual funds and again, owning your own business. These will appeal to some yet not to others.Faith is a common thread throughout the “Secrets†as it is mentioned in many of them as something that is particularly important to success and the feeling down deep that you are accomplishing what God intends. He notes accepting faith is often difficult at best.Common sense is the third main theme. Here Mr. Leigh’s suggestions are things like going to bed early, working hard, doing the right thing whether it seems so or not, being kind and, making good choices consistently over a long period of time.Now, at this point you may be thinking you don’t need this book. Perhaps you don’t. It is clear to this reviewer that the book is an excellent primer for students and young adults who crave attention and acknowledgement from others but are stymied in just how to get it. For them it can be a gold mine of useful information that will help them become the best adults they can be.
It would be nice to have an uncle that is there when you need someone to turn to, to help you on the path. Perhaps this is advice that you would give a young person starting out in life. Or any age, to help keep the attitude strong, to help one with some good choices on the path towards success. I especially like the idea that if you have a goal, an idea, a piece of something that has value to you, if you are patient, it may not happen immediately, but it just may happen for you. He says: “You are a path picker, a traveler, don’t be impatientâ€. I love that part. And there are some specific gems you will find for yourself, specifically designed to steer you in a practical and abundant direction.Yes, it may seem simple, but sometimes, you need something to pick up, where it all is. If you are looking for a motivational good sense helper, this is it. You can keep it by your bedside, or living room table, like a friend, and the words, the admonitions, and the kindness will always be there for you.
